I recently obtained sheet music for the song “When Broadway was a Pasture”. According to “The Encyclopedia of Vaudeville” by Anthony Slide, in December 1910, Valeska starred in her own 30 minute mini-revue at Hammerstein’s Victoria Theatre titled “Bouffe Variety.” Her leading man was Fletcher Norton (her one time husband). With him, she had a brief romantic interlude onstage, performed a comedy routine which included her singing “When Broadway Was a Pasture” and closed with her as the bride.
I have included a scan of the cover of the cue sheet along with scans of the song. If anyone wants to cover the track and submit it, I would be more than happy to post it!
